Ice worth $130 million seized from Melbourne apartment

More than 135 kilograms of the drug ice - worth about $130 million - was
found in suitcases during a raid on an apartment in inner Melbourne.
Australian Federal Police and Australian Crime Commission officers seized
four suitcases containing the crystal methylamphetamine, also called ice,
in a raid on Tuesday.
Four men, all Taiwanese nationals, appeared briefly in Melbourne Magistrates
Court on Wednesday.
Ming Hsuan Ou, 23, and Chun Lan, 28, are charged with one count each of
trafficking a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug.
Li Peng Chen, 23, and Shu Yi Lin, 20, are charged with one count each of
being in possession of a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug.
The four men, all of no fixed address, were remanded in custody to return to
court in November. None applied for bail.
Police believe the seized drugs would have amounted to about 1.3 million
street deals.
AFP commander Bruce Giles said police were investigating whether the drugs
came from overseas or were manufactured in Australia.
He could not comment on whether the drugs were linked to an outlaw motorcycle
club.
ACC national manager of investigations Richard Grant said the raids were the
result of intelligence given to the Eligo taskforce tackling money laundering.
‘‘Crystal methylamphetamine is a nasty, insidious drug and it’s considered
the most dangerous illicit drug market in operation today,’’ he said.
