聯合國指出,全球氣候暖化速度加快,人類的活動是主因。未來全球的氣候變化將會更劇烈。全球暖化會使冰帽降低,海水平面升高,使低窪地區不再適合居住。根據最新的估計,地球表面平均溫度從1990到2100之間會上升約攝氏1.4到5.8度。全球氣候暖化所帶來的影響是更多的洪水及旱災。Klaus Toepfer提議,應該藉由這一份報告來喚醒世界各地對全球氣候暖化的重視。
