I don't think this is so simple. Certainly the oil was one of the major
concerns. Similarly, France and Germany tried to prevent the war for similar
reasons, the oil. I cannot see what wrong the Prime Minister made. The UK
spent some force in the Mid East, not that much as the US, and got some
control on the oil, which is very important energy resource.
I know this would cause a war and kill many people, however, I would not
give up, unless I were going to receive more arguments about bad economy
due to expensive energy. Usually, economy issues usually hurt a president or
a prime ministr more than a winning war.
You see? This is not that simple just like what you said.
I also doubt that is true that 'most of the Britons do not want to join...
in Mid East'.
I would rather believe most of the Britons do trust their Prime Minister;
at least, they obey all the election results and/or decisions from the one
wins the general election.
Before the war, there were a lot of arguments every day. Nearly everywhere
in the UK was full of discussion about this issue. Once agreement and decision
came out, all the four countries solidified firmly. If there was a war then
they were not going to surrender. To be honest, I do envy this. This has never
happened in democratic Taiwan. I don't mean the war but the solidification
and obeying the rules, the laws, agreements and the elections.
To be a Briton may be nice, however, to carefully think and openly discuss
political and international issue, like Britons, is even more worthy.
By the way,
At the same time, there was SARS around several countries. There were two
cases in England. However, the management and communication of their
medical system was not that rubbish as those of Taiwan. Nobody dead due to
SARS in the UK. I did be so proud of Taiwan, before it outbroke.
Eventually, I was wrong. From the four people dead in the river, the SARS
and the little girl dead due to no hospital wanting to take her,
the system has not changed too much, has it?
