餐廳食物上的裝飾品 - 文化差異

前天和兩個台灣朋友以及我男友去吃飯
在一間泰國餐廳,其中三道菜都有一個紅蘿蔔雕花,
吃到最後我男友(是澳洲當地人),就把其中一盤的紅蘿蔔夾去吃,
當下除了覺得他很愛吃之外...(其實也還好啦,也許覺得菜有點油,想吃生菜)
我就跟他說那個應該是回收的,他就說不可能有這麼不衛生的事,
然後一個曾在中國餐廳打工過的朋友,就說他們以前都會回收這類擺飾物,
雖然所謂擺飾品有時是包括不可吃的假蘭花之類的,而且都有洗過,
讓我想到我之前在一家日本餐廳,他們的烤物下面也會墊一張竹葉,
經理也是叫我們要收起來放在一個水盒,只是我覺得很噁所以都會把它丟掉,
然後我就跟我男友解釋我們不吃,因為那是用來放好看的,
他就說只要是在餐盤上的應該都是可以給客人食用的,
我就想,是東西方飲食文化不同嗎,西方人餐盤上,
感覺像是裝飾的一些香料,有時給了那道食物畫龍點睛之妙,
比起來東方(應該特別是指中菜吧),裝飾物就花俏不少,而且純粹裝飾,
反正最後結局是要走前,我男友突然用筷子把其他的紅蘿蔔花給破壞了,
看似受到相當大的打擊 XD
